Omnium in the UN: ‘Jordi Cuixart has spent almost 1000 days arbitrarily detained in Spain’

Olivier Peter, Jordi Cuixart’s lawyer, has denounced Cuixart’s situation in the 44th United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva (Switzerland)

Òmnium Cultural, a Barcelona-based NGO dealing with culture and human rights, has denounced today in the United Nations Human Rights Council that Jordi Cuixart has spent almost 1000 days arbitrarily imprisoned and that Spain ignores international requests to release him. International bodies like the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and international NGOs like Amnesty International, Front Line Defenders, and the OMCT have urged the Spanish authorities to put an end to this unfair imprisonment.

Olivier Peter, Jordi Cuixart’s lawyer, has made this claim during the 44th United Nations Human Rights Council, which is taking place in Geneva (Switzerland). Next Sunday will mark 1000 days since Jordi Cuixart was unjustly imprisoned for having exercised his fundamental rights: “His conviction constitutes a grave violation of freedom of expression and peaceful assembly”.
